Firenze (Florence) Part I

We finally got a chance to get out of Rome and experience traveling, which is something we have both imagined doing for years. For our first trip we decided on Florence. It is world renowned for its beauty and renaissance revival architecture, and we might have picked the best place to start our Europe journey. We traveled by train from Roma Termini to Florence Santa Maria Novella train station. The train was a fast train that reached 300 km/h or around 187 mph. The trains were comfortable and included power charging stations for electronics. It remind us much of airplanes in how the attendants brought around food carts etc, except much more space. Our hostel was in a great location and was exactly what we were hoping for.

First up on our way into town was the Duomo, one of the most famous cathedrals in the world. The dome of the cathedral was designed and constructed by Brunelleschi  and it was just as amazing from afar as it was inside. With that, on comes the pictures!

Next is Ponte Vecchio, known as the old bridge. Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge the Nazi's did not destroy while retreating over the river during WW2. The bridge today is world renowned for its jewelry, and expensive jewelry at that.

Next up the the view from Piazza Michelangelo which overlooks downtown Florence.

Near the piazza is a very cool and intricate cathedral. A little off the beaten path but it was well worth the
long walk to get there.
